This week we were delighted to welcome Detroit resident, drummer, songwriter and producer Drew Shultz onto a special edition of The Funk & Soul Revue. Despite being a young man, Drew has already toured the world over with legendary artists The Four Tops, as well as collaborating many musical icons, including the Tops themselves, as well as Reginald Torain of The Impressions and members of the legendary Motown house band The Funk Brothers.

These collaborations have formed his ‘Back to Class’ series of releases: an album of the same title, as well as several great single releases. Drew is donating half of all profits he makes to public music programmes in Detroit, Chicago and soon New York, helping to provide school children with musical opportunities. In the last few weeks he has released the latest single in the project, a song entitled ‘Fairytale‘ featuring the vocals of Mark Scott, the former lead singer of The Miracles.

Drew joined us all the way from Detroit to discuss his career so far, how he got into soul music, as well as his first encounter with The Funk Brothers and his mentor, the legendary drummer Uriel Jones! You can listen to the interview below on Mixcloud, as well as checking out Drew’s Spotify page. For more information on Drew please visit dsdrums.com, to purchase his music you can go to iTunes or Amazon Music.
