After the success of his Club Motown compilation back in 2014, legendary DJ and remixer John Morales is set to release a brand new 12″ from the Kings of Motown Funk.
There’s no better news to bring you this Monday than this: the pioneering figurehead of DJing and remixing John Morales is set to release a brand new 12″ this Friday featuring three of Motown’s most funkiest numbers. On this latest release Morales has put his magical remixing hands to work on The Commodores’ funk anthem ‘Brick House‘, Rick James’ excellent ‘Big Time‘, and, excitingly, The Temptations and Rick James’ brilliant collaboration ‘Standing On The Top‘. It’s not the first time that Morales has remixed Rick James and The Temptations: back in the eighties he remixed The Tempts’ ‘Treat Her Like A Lady‘ along with a rarity ‘Do You Really Love Your Baby‘, and more recently released a 12″ of Rick James ‘You And I‘ for Record Store Day in the United States.
This 12″ collection comes hot on the heels of the success of his Club Motown compilation which saw Morales pick out classic and rare 12″ singles from Motown’s later days in the seventies and eighties, along with some older M&M mixes, plus five new M&M mixes from Teena Marie, Diana Ross, Val Young, Tata Vega and Thelma Houston. Back in 2014 we sat down with John Morales who revealed in private to us then that he was planning a ‘Motown Kings’ edition to follow on from Club Motown, and it appears its finally in the offing. In anticipation of the release Morales has put up a six minute teaser on SoundCloud, below. We think you’ll agree, this is going to be tasty. Very tasty indeed.
John Morales’ new 12″ single collection is released Friday 29th January and can be pre-ordered now on The Sound of Vinyl here.
