On November 6th George Bromfield, better known as Georgie B, brings his unique brand of Brit-Funk to Chelsea’s state-of-the-art Under The Bridge venue for a night of soul and funk.
Back in April 2011 a sold-out crowd at London’s indigo2 celebrated thirty years of Brit-Funk music, with acts such as Junior Giscombe, Beggar & Co, Leee John, and David Joseph coming together for one incredible night of music. One of the many highlights of that evening was the reunion of the group Second Image, lead by frontman and lead singer George Bromfield, better known as Georgie B. We were in attendance that night and can report that Second Image delivered a great set, particularly their very funky rendition of ‘Can’t Keep Holding On’.
Whilst that night celebrated the past, it also marked the dawn of a new musical era for Georgie B. Although, as far as we are aware, Second Image has not performed together since that night, Georgie B has since gone on to launch a successful solo career, and has helped to reignite the Brit-Funk scene. Soon after this performance at the indigo2 Georgie B set to work on his latest project entitled ‘The Groove Association’, a platform for him and other British soul artists and musicians to record and release new soul and funk music. Indeed, under the banner of The Groove Association, Georgie B has released a plethora of enjoyable singles including the mid-tempo ‘Something’s Changed’, the disco-infused ‘Old Skool Magic’, and the brilliant Earth, Wind & Fire style jam ‘Let’s Break The Ice’. These releases gained much attention on the UK soul scene, with Georgie B climbing both the UK Soul Chart as well as Solar Radio’s respected Sweet Rhythms Chart.
In 2013 Georgie B took The Groove Association to the next level with a brilliant remake of the Skipworth & Turner classic ‘Thinking About Your Love’. Georgie B’s playful performance is a real treat to hear, giving this well-loved slab of groove a new lease of life. The track also saw Georgie B team up with veteran singer Deborah Bond who provided the song with a great background vocal. Capitalising on the success of this single Georgie B released his highly anticipated and well-received solo album 3AM in 2014, an enjoyable album of tasty grooves from this Brit-Funk veteran.
This year Georgie B has continued to promote his album, performing at London’s Jazz Café to a sold out crowd in April, and now he is set to play a one-off date at Under the Bridge in Chelsea this November. Georgie B will be backed by a full eight piece band, and will also be joined onstage by Deborah Bell who is likely to be performing a few of her own songs from her solo release Close Your Eyes. Also on the night Everis Pellius will be doing a live PA, and Solar Radio legends James Anthony and Ash Selector will be spinning the grooves before and after the performance all the way into the early hours. This is sure to be one fabulous night of Brit-Funk groove!
The Groove Association featuring Georgie B will be performing in London at Under The Bridge on Friday November 6th, with an appearance by Deborah Bond, live PA from Everis Pellius, and DJ sets from James Anthony and Ash Selector. Tickets are available here, and more information on Georgie B can be found here.
