It’s safe to say that Melba Moore is an icon. She is a Tony Award winning actress, she has had a successful recording career, and she has even been interviewed by us here at TFSR. So it’s safe to say, she’s done it all. And now at the age of seventy she’s back doing what she does best: creating new music. This April she is set to release a brand new album entitled Forever Moore, and this Valentine’s Day she has treated her fans to the first single of the album, the sultry ‘How Sweet It Is’.
From the title you might think that Moore has covered the Marvin Gaye classic, but it’s actually a brand new composition for Moore. The single is a mid-tempo groove that suits Moore’s voice well, and although she may be now into her seventies, fear not, the voice is still there. The song itself is pretty catchy, and teases our expectations from her new album due out later this year. Its refreshing to hear an artist of Moore’s stature being adventurous in the later years of her career; while many of her contemporaries opt for covers albums or duet albums, Moore seems to be sticking to her guns with her new material, and that deserves to be applauded. We wait for April to see what else Melba Moore has up her sleeve.
