The self-proclaimed Prince of Sophisticated Soul is to release his latest album this September.

Will Downing’s latest single features neo-soul favourite Avery*Sunshine.

There aren’t many better soul singers on the scene than Will Downing, and it’s with great excitement that he has announced the release date of his upcoming album Soul Survivor. The album is set to drop on 22 September, and follows-up last year’s decent album of covers Black Pearls. The album is to be Downing’s 20th solo record, and is set to feature appearances from friends and collaborates Najee and Phil Perry (check out their earlier duet on The Original’s ‘Baby, I’m For Real’).

To keep us occupied until then, Downing has released the first single from the album, an exquisite duet with Avery*Sunshine, one of the brightest artists on the contemporary soul scene. The two shine on the mid-tempo groove “I’m Feeling the Love”, a strong first track from Downing’s upcoming album. In a press release accompanying the release Downing is quoted as saying:

“‘I’m Feeling The Love’ is my anthem for anyone that has been in and out of love. It is a song about renewed spirit. As always, Avery*Sunshine’s performance is heartfelt and it is a perfect match for me. She absolutely made me feel the love with her amazing vocals.”

The rest of the album is set to be a mixture of original songs and covers, following in the pattern of previous Downing albums where he’s reinvented classic, well-loved tracks in his unique, sophisticated way.

Soul Survivor is due out on 22 September on Shanachie Records.
