Disco king Nile Rodgers and Chic have debuted two new tracks from their new album It’s About Time.
The legendary songwriter, producer and performer Nile Rodgers has finally given fans a taste of the long-awaited new Chic album It’s About Time. On BBC 2’s Later…With Jools Holland, Rodgers and Chic performed two new tracks, ‘Till The World Falls’ and ‘Boogie All Night’. The former will be the first single release and should be available next Friday (22 June), and features contributions from Mura Masa (also known as guitarist and producer Alex Crossan) and vocalist Cosha.
Mura Masa also features on ‘Boogie All Night’, as does the talented NAO, who also appeared on Jools Holland with Rodgers and Chic. As you might expect, the new tracks are classic Chic: Rodger’s guitar is front and centre, backed by his stellar touring band of musicians.
In an interview with V Magazine, Rodgers also revealed the album cover of the work – an updated version of Chic’s debut album cover. He said of ‘Boogie All Night’ that: “one of my favorite artists is NAO. She kicks my ass. I was like, “I have to find her,” and I tracked her down. She had this incredible attitude of whatever you want, I’ll sing. We were in the studio all night long. Finally, I take a picture of Mura Masa, NAO, and myself out in front of Abbey Road at like five in the morning because we had been going all night. And then we wind up with a song called “Boogie All Night”. It’s killing.”
No further details of the new album have been announced yet, although it could feature a collaboration with Avicii (Rodgers had previously worked on tracks with the late DJ last year). The album has been a long time coming, we were treated to two new tracks in 2015, the excellent ‘I’ll Be There’ and ‘Back In The Old School’. Since then Rodgers has been touring almost non-stop across the globe, and fought a second battle with cancer.
Due out in September, It’s About Time promises to be one of the most exciting records of the year.
