About Us

George and Will are two graduates hailing from Newcastle University, UK. Throughout their university careers, both have played an active role in the management of Newcastle Student Radio, and it is here that they discovered their passion for Funk, Soul, Blues, Jazz, and anything in between.

There’s a lot of music around today.

We often spend time putting the world to rights. In our infinite wisdom, we decided that folks these days are spending so long sifting through an endless river of just-add-water-pop-hits, that few have had the time to listen to the great funk and soul classics that many of the older generations have come to revere as household names. In building this website, our primary aim is to build a bank of reviews and interviews with upcoming stars and classics of the noble genres alike. We’ve been fortunate enough to secure the likes of Bill Curtis and John Morales for interview, as well as many fantastic others, and it’s always both fascinating and exciting to speak to these artists. If you’re visiting this site because you are interested to see how we differ to other music blogs then welcome!

However, we’re also about educating, too. We welcome with open arms those who have never ventured into the world of Funk and Soul. We’ve tried to make it as easy as possible to start this journey, and if it is your first time, then we really hope you enjoy what you discover. We recommend starting with the ‘Soul Revisited’ compendium. These wiki-like nuggets will hopefully help you find your toes. For the veterans amongst us, you might consider heading over to the ‘Rare Cuts’ section of the site – hopefully we might introduce some hidden tracks into your playlist as well.

Speaking of, if you don’t have time to read the Revue in full or want to discover at your own pace, we have also created the Collections site, which contains a fair few ready made playlists to set you on the right track, and to help you discover which it is you prefer – funk, soul, or perhaps another sub-genre.

If you are a Funk and/or Soul musician yourself, we would love to take a listen to your stuff, and if time permits, review it for the site. Please don’t be afraid to contact us – see the contact us page for more details.

Once again, we hope you enjoy your visit to The Funk & Soul Revue, and thank you for your continued support, it means the world to us.
